Overview:
People Kraft is a small business based out of bangalore that makes products out of purely cloth waste. I was asked to shadow the business and try solving A problem that the business faces.

Objectives I could accomplish for People Kraft

  • Design a sustainable scalable system for sourcing packaging boxes
  • Solving branding problem with regards to Indian Postal services
  • Brand collaterals for micro marketing
  • Ideating to Prototyping 3 completely non-existent sustainable packaging alternatives
  • Ideating to Prototyping a Christmas ornament

Motivation behind doing this project:
Within a span of 19 days, I had to attempt solving one problem this real-world small business was facing. They had a problem with their packaging and solving a packaging problem for a sustainable company at its core and in its truest sense, was challenge doubled for me. Knowing that there was time crunch and I would have to push my boundaries every second of this project, challenged me to get it done. Thus came along, all the products, packaging & branding colaterals for People Kraft.

Products, Packaging and Branding

Vented air sleeves
Considering the amount of milk packets we trash everyday and supporting it strong primary research, I made used milk bags as base material.
After sanitizing & heat sealing these bags, I managed to make a strong, sturdy and sustainable courier sleeve. These sleeves have air vents that can be blown according to product requirement. These act like air cushions that blow in car, saving humans from accidents. Each sleeve has 4 air vents.

Criss Cross wrap
This is an alternative to bubble wrap. When a bubble wrap is torn, bubble at its edges go to waste. With this wrap you tear at criss cross junctions for they waste no bubbles. This wrap can be molded like clay and fits almost like water in any structure. You can cut a long sheet, vertical strips, or even single bubble balls. They fill voids like none other.

Air Cushions
While the outer shells of a product were secured with Vented air sleeves, Asha had products that needed protection from the inside. Air cushions are simple tiny cushions made out of half a milk bag. These are inserted in places where the Vented air sleeves can’t reach. They can alternately also be used to fluff their pouches and bags to maintain shape during delivery.

Brand pattern
solving Indian Postal service issue

Indian Postal service does not allow any packaged to be delivered with any kind of branding on it. They say their objective is Postal Services not advertisement. I designed a simple brand patterns which can be used across their product range. Since brand patterns do not openly market a product, they got accepted in the Indian postal service. They more or less look like random wrapping papers and washi tapes.

Braided Coil tags
These tags were mad by intention of micro marketing.
They can be later used as a jewellery piece, key holder, bookmark, hair-tie and what not.
