Overview:
Tribal jewellery although being a rich part of our culture is always overlooked. Brands often take inspiration from such cultures and brands as their own. With Kartigars, we pick the existing jewellery and provide self-employment opportunities to the artists who belong to this craft without damaging its original essence. We understand the market needs and tweak certain aspects ethically but foremost, we treat these pieces as a form of art and not a product. Kartigars doesn’t just sell jewellery for its aesthetic value but also for its representation of the tribal culture of the country, the stories it holds & value it propagates on a global platform.
Motivation behind doing this project:
How many times have you bargained at a local tribal jewellery seller? Do you do the same at an established store? No.
On noticing a similar behaviourial pattern throughout the Indian market, I realized that there was a need to support such businesses. Digging deep I understood that this problem cannot be solved by mass broadcasting knowledge about “Why you shouldn’t bargain at a local indegenous store”. There was a need for fresh perspective in this (not even considered as) problem area.
Thus came along, Kartigars.
