Overview:
Heal is an interactive sculpture designed for interaction during distancing times. When people standing on the 9 tiles will co-ordinate with other and be in unison with the beats of the song, the sculpture will start turning from virus to a ball of flowers.
Motivation behind doing this project:
After getting locked up in my own house for more than 4 months with minimum interaction in the neighborhood I realized how it had started affecting my mental health. I felt the need to get out of my house, but conditions didn’t permit any of us to do so. Looking at these pandemic and lockdown conditions we can see a new normal evolving in this world. A world where maintaining specific distance and wearing masks is mandatory, normal handshakes or even sneezing in the public is treated as crime and where everything comes with a drop of sanitizer.
We humans are social creatures and cannot sustain without interaction for a long time. This motivated me to create an interactive space where people could come together, have fun, interact, exchange smiles and do all of these without breaking the social distancing norms. Thus came along, Heal.
Concept Visualization
This ball of flowers represents “the Earth and its healing” that happened while we all had social distanced ourselves. The virus will be voilet in colour representing poison while white with a tint of yellow for the flowers representing healing. The sculpture will allow people to enjoy each other’s company without breaking any norms.
How will heal interact
“If social distancing is for a cause, then why interaction go for a toss?”
The sculpture ‘Heal’ is an interactive corona virus. When 9 people step on the 9 Blue tiles of the sculpture, it gets activated and starts playing a song on the count of 10. (The most important part from the songs are their beats.) All these pellucid tiles have a glistening bulb attached under them. When the bulbs glisten, humans on those tiles have to jump. Their jump will create a vibration thus producing a beat which then will be superimposed with the beats of the song. The spike of this sculpture will start getting converted into blooming flowers if these people continue to function together in unison. If all of them coordinate till the end, the whole virus turns into a ball of beautiful white flowers. The statue gets back to its original shape after these 9 people get off their tiles.
